It was held from February 16 to 23, 2023 in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre by the Toronto Automobile Dealers Association. New this year at the Toronto Auto Show, “Electric City” that “puts a spotlight” on electric vehicles: charging options, green electricity and electrified micro-mobility alternatives. According to a press release, Electric City was sponsored by the Government of Canada, Toronto Star and EnerSavings and answered the question what the future of auto electrification will look like: “The electrification of the automotive sector is gaining momentum and will only continue to grow as Canada marches towards a Net Zero future,” says Jason Campbell, General Manager of the AutoShow. “The AutoShow has always been a platform to see where the future of the automobile is going, and today electrification is a big part of that.”
Are Electric Cars an Environmental Solution?
The electric car is touted as a solution to the environment and to auto safety. But questions remain as to the viability of the electric automobile to reduce omissions as coal is used in the U.S. to generate electricity. Also, as discussed at PDAC 2023, this electrification will require the mining of rare minerals which also have environmental concerns.
