Honda Indy Toronto 2018

The Honda Indy Toronto, an annual IndyCar Series race, hit Toronto from July 13 to 15, 2018.    Indy Toronto includes the free by donation family Friday, two days of racing, the Honda World, Thunder Ally, Beer Gardens, qualifying races, the NASCAR Series Grand Prix of Toronto Race and the Verizon Indy Car Series Race.

Honda World:

This interactive fan area featured games, vehicle displays, activities and much more.   Included were activities like face painting, racing simulators and a photo display with James Hinchcliffe’s show car.

Thunder Alley:

Thunder Alley had interactive contests and exhibits, food trucks and vendors, live entertainment, driver autograph sessions and family fun.

Pinty’s Grand Prix of Toronto:

On Saturday July 14, 2018 this race brought Canada’s brightest racing stars to one track, from champions Scott Steckly, D.J. Kennington and Andrew Ranger, to notable names like Alex Tagliani and L.P. Dumoulin.  First place was won by Andrew Ranger, 2nd place by Alex Tagliani and 3rd place by Jean Francois.

The Main Event:  Honda Indy Toronto Verizon IndyCar Series Race:

Scott Dixon, in the No. 9 PNC Bank Honda, won the Honda Indy Toronto on Sunday and extended his lead in the Verizon IndyCar Series championship.  He led 49 of the first laps and 27 of the final laps.  Simon Pagenaud in the No. 22 DXC Technology Team Penske Chevrolet came in second.   Canadian Robert Wickens (from Guelph) had a great race placing third.  Last year’s winner and pole sitter Josef Newgarden finished ninth because he brushed the wall on lap 33.

About The Honda Indy Toronto:

The Honda Indy Toronto is an annual IndyCar Series.  The track is located on the C.N.E. grounds in Toronto.  Torontoartsandevents began covering it when it was known as the Molson Indy Toronto when it was a Champion Car World Series race held annually from 1986 to 2007. It is IndyCar’s second-longest running street race, second only to the Grand Prix of Long Beach.  This event is now owned and operated by Green Savoree Racing Promotions.
