Scrubs in the City 2018

La Dolce Vita has arrived at the 17th annual Scrubs in the City- presented by BMO Wealth Management in collaboration with Mantella Corporation.  On June 7th 2018, Scrubs in the City combined the theme of the eternal city of Rome to create an elegant and sophisticated event of the best of all things Roman to benefit the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). The Evergreen Brick Works was transformed into the enchanting city of Rome where Roman statues via live models and prosecco greeted guests as they entered.   The attendees were the most stylist guests ever, from fashionistas wearing their favourite Italian designers to others channeling their look for the evening from Gina Lollobrigida to Sophia Loren.  It was just the beginning of a Roman adventure, so hold on tight because it was off to Rome.

A Roman Italian theme would not be the same without the music and food, and the music and food did deliver.  Throughout the early evening the best songs of great Italian artists were played while guests enjoyed the scrumptious hors d’oeuvres such as pea & mint arancini, crostini di Anchovi bianco, King oyster mushroom pizza, beef polpette salimboca a la Romana and many more.  For dinner, it was like an evening stroll in a piazza in Rome, with the street lined with a variety of restaurants to choose. From Piano Piano restaurant serving their delicious cavetelli, Bucca’s pizza fresh from their hot oven, Jamie’s Italian Panzerottini, and to Toben’s Catering perfect grilled lamb scotadita.   In addition, a trip to Rome would not be complete with a portrait illustration or photo on a Vespa to take home with you.  After dinner it was a perfect time to grab a gelato.

To date, the annual event has raised more than $5 million in support of some of the most critical needs at the hospital and $820,000 has been raised to re-imagine SickKids campus.   Guests were also able to support Sickkids by participating in a draw for exciting dream vacation packages and also by engaging in exclusive silent auctions such as the Roman Fendi experience, which included business class tickets to Rome with Air Canada.

As the sun set on Scrubs in the City Rome, something magical started to happen. There were stunning performances from a live band singing O sole mio and Mama Mia and the Brazilian dancers in their magnificent costumes setting the tone for next year’s theme.    It was an exciting and delightful evening filled with countless experiences of the culture and spirit of a Roman Holiday.  Arrividerci Roma and look forward to Scrubs in the City Rio 2019!
