
NACO partnered with the Elevate Tech Fest to produce Elevate and the World Angel Investment Summit 2018 concurrently during September 21 to 27, 2018. NACO collaborated with Elevate to run their Financing track and co-host keynote speakers.
The 2018 World Angel Investment Summit:
The 2018 World Angel Investment Summit is the “culmination of years worth of NACO’s efforts to build Angel communities across the country, and will catalyze a more dynamic early stage capital ecosystem.” According to organizers this Summit had over 700 investors, partners and industry leaders from around the world and World Angel Investment Summit is the flagship event for the Canadian Angel Investor community.
ELEVATE 2018
Elevate is a tech and innovation festival which took place from September 21 to 27, 2018 in 250 venues across Toronto. According to organizers, this event attracted over 10,000 guests who experienced 300 inspiring speakers, networking events, 12 public and private content tracks, had the opportunity to explore 200 of Toronto’s most innovative companies and enable talent to explore over 1,000 opportunities.
Al Gore:
Al Gore, Chairman, Generation Investment Management gave a passionate and optimistic speech about the need for action on climate change and tied how technology can assist us in combating the problem.
Eric Schmidt:
Amanda Lang interviewed Eric Schmidt, Technical Advisor and Board Member of Google about the dangers of tech giants taking engineers from startups and small Canadian companies. His answer was not persuasive
NACO Welcome Reception at Casa Loma
The WAIS opening on September 25, 2018 with an elegant reception at the Casa Loma for the official launch of the World Angel Investment Summit.
The Privacy and Big Data session
This session was moderator by Zane Schwartz (The Logic) and the panelists were: Guillame Bouchard (CONTXTFUL), Sean Kidd (CAMH), Ann Cavoukian (Ryerson). It was an interesting session on privacy especially in the medical area.
Gala Awards Dinner & Keynote Address (Hilton Toronto Ballroom)
The Awards were presented to: NACO’s Canadian Angel of the Year, NACO’s Most Promising Start-Up of the Year and NACO’s Exit of the Year.
