The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery today announced the pre and main party artists in anticipation of one of Canada’s most influential and vibrant galas, Power Ball: 21 Club, presented by Holt Renfrew. For one night only, The Power Plant will transform into an illicit speakeasy, inviting guests to celebrate the city’s most notorious art world characters, artists and fans of the forbidden.

On 6 June 2019, guests can expect an evening of grit, glitz and glamour with unique art installations, performances and cocktails. Party-goers cans will hooch, explore, and experience the hidden corners of a new elusive art world.

Taking over the Clerestory, presenting sponsor Holt Renfrew will welcome Power Ball: 21 Club party-goers with a visually experiential runway, where guests will become the main attraction as they enter the space.

The pre-party reception begins at 7 p.m.in the Royal Lepage Gallery, where Sarah Keenlyside transports guests into a space where the glorious dance of service forms the Centerpiece of an epic meal –an ode to speakeasies and a BusbyBerkeleyesque celebration of the craft of service. FoodbyLa Banane, Man Ray à vin, CXBO Chocolates and drinks from FIOLProsecco will be woven into the immersive performance that blurs the lines between reality and historicity.

At 9 p.m., guests will immerse themselves in the creative brilliance of artists Max Streicher, Bruno Billio and a performance space programmed by Tobaron Waxman, Artistic Director of The Intergenerational LGBT Artist Residency. Feast on the carefully curated menu from Chase Hospitality Group with desserts by Ricarda’s and Krispy Kreme and sip libations from Spirit of York, Ace Hill, Pommies and Châteaudes Charmes. Guests will find themselves amongst an impressive display of inflatable, kinetic sculptures by Max Streicher and fluorescent masking tape installations byBruno Billio.Tobaron Waxmanhas invited some of Toronto’s best drag performers,who will give party goers a taste of the city’s richLGBTQ2+community from East to West. The performances will take place under an installation by artist Michel Dumont, an alumni of the Residency.

For the first time ever, Bumble Bizz, a major sponsor of Power Ball: 21 Club, has given one Canadian artist the opportunity of a lifetime to showcase their work alongside leading Canadian contemporary artists on a worldwide scale. Acquired through Bizz, Bumble’s professional networking platform, one participant has the opportunity to put on an artistic display at Toronto’s most notorious bash following the theme Make the First Move. Applicants were challenged to submit a proposal that encompassed Bumble’s work to upend gendered relationship norms. The winner will be announced in the coming weeks.
