DX Intersection 2018: Forward

On Thursday, November 8th, 2018, the Design Exchange hosted its annual fundraiser called, DX Intersection 2018: Forward. Presented by RBCxMusic and RBC Future Launch, DX Intersection is the Design Exchange’s annual celebration of all things creative and innovative. All of the proceeds from this event will support the Design Exchange’s youth and children programs.

Each year, the Design Exchanges honours a Canadian individual or partnership for their excellent demonstration of creativity, outstanding talent, and innovative vision. This year’s honouree was Oliver El-Khatib, the creative director/co-founder of the famous Canadian brand, October’s Very Own (OVO). Some of El-Khatib and OVO’s accomplishments included OVO Fest, the 6ix, the 2016 NBA All-Star Game, and a weekly show on Apple’s Beats 1 Radio.

Since this was a glamourous celebration of creativity and talent, many of Toronto’s most well-known arts and entertainment personalities were in attendance that night. Shinan Govani (Social Columnist and Author) and Sarah Diamond (the president of OCAD) were in attendance that night, along with Glen Baxter (TV Journalist). Guests were treated to champagne from Piper Heidsieck and elegant hors d’oeuvres from McEwan and Daniel et Daniel.

The swanky and glitzy DX Intersection 2018: Forward Fundraiser was separated into three sections. The highly exclusive Donors Dinner took place on the upper level of the building. The second floor consisted of musical performances, open bar stations, and food stations. The first floor featured some of OVO’s jackets from their new collaboration with Roots Canada and a gigantic lacquered-based enamel/steel/hardwood white owl installation by artist, Kwest. Highlights of the evening included live musical performances from Charlotte Day-Wilson and Mustafa. Other musical performers included Go Home Roger, + Kid Masterpiece, Vacations, Govi, and Gonnie Garko.
