Toronto Jazz Festival

The 23rd annual Toronto Jazz Festival was held June 26 to July 5, 2009 at Nathan Phillips Square and various clubs and locations in Toronto by the Toronto Downtown Jazz. There were 1,500 Musicians, 350 Concerts, 40 Stages & 10 Days of Jazz. Performers included: Tony Bennett, Sonny Rollins, the Gary Burton Quartet Revisited with guitar genius Pat Metheny, Steve Swallow and Antonio Sanchez, Jamie Cullum, Dave Brubeck, Al Di Meola World Sinfoniaཅ, saxophonist Branford Marsalis in a double bill with the Dave Holland Quintet, Curtis Stigers and Eliane Elias, Japanese saxophonist Sadao Watanabe, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, jam-band legends Medeski Martin & Wood, zydeco's most popular performer, Buckwheat Zydeco, Kool & The Gang, Stefano Bollani, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Delirium,and Motif, Bonnie Raitt, Susan Tededschi and Madeleine Peyroux. Due to scheduling problems TorontoArtsandEvents was unable to see Tony Bennett and Kool & the Gang; our favourite of what we saw was Curtis Stigers who was funny and sung a variety of songs some of which reminded us of Frank Sinatra.
