PDAC, the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada held its 77th annual International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on March 1 to 4, 2009. According to its web site, "PDAC exists to protect and promote the interests of the Canadian mineral exploration sector and to ensure a robust mining industry in Canada. Now in its 77th year, the PDAC's annual convention is an important international meeting for the mineral exploration and development community attracting in excess of 18,000 delegates from over the globe. This convention has been a gathering place for people and companies involved in the search and development of new mineral deposits. The PDAC 2009 convention consisted of The Trade Show and Investors Exchange, technical programs, PDAC Annual General Meeting. Evening events included the welcome reception, the Awards gala, Dynamic CMP Funds Mining Night, the Wrap Party and many private receptions.
The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada announced its annual awards for 2009 at its annual awards gala dinner at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel on Monday March 2, 2009. The winners are:
- Skookum Jim Award - Tli Cho Logistics
- Thayer Lindsley International Discovery Award - Richard Garnett, who was technical director of the Anglo American subsidiary that began working exploration at the Donlin Creek site, and NovaGold Resources Inc
- Bill Dennis Prospector of the Year Award - HudBay Minerals Inc. receives this award for its 2007 discovery of the Lalor zinc deposit in the Flin Flon Greenstone Belt, Manitoba.
- Viola R. MacMillan Developer's Award - Goldcorp Inc.
- Distinguished Service Award - David A. Barr
- e3 Environmental Excellence in Exploration Award - BioteQ Environmental Technologies Inc.
