Operation Herbie held its largest fundraising event of the year, the Mistletoe Ball and Silent Auction on December 6, 2008 within the Michael Lee Chin Crystal building at the Royal Ontario Museum ( see Sources & Links ). It featured live music, mouth-watering gourmet cuisine and a very extensive silent auction. This ball raises over $400,000 annually with all proceeds going to The Herbie Fund at The Hospital for Sick Children.
The Herbie Fund
The Herbie Fund is a volunteer based fundraising group that has been raising money for the Herbie Fund for for almost 30 years at The Hospital For Sick Children. The group is dedicated to bringing children from all parts of the world, who are in need of life-saving or life-altering surgeries to SickKids for medical treatment. It is "steadfast in their belief that no child should be denied medical care based on race, religion, geography, or financial status. They believe that the future of our world lies in the health and well being of our children, and that there is no higher generosity and compassion than to care for a child." [www.operationherbie.com] Financial support is provided so that children from all over the world can receive surgical treatment at The Hospital for Sick Children.
History of Herbie Fund
The Herbie Fund was established by Paul and Gina Godfrey at The Hospital for Sick Children in 1979 during the “International Year of the Child” in response to the needs of Herbie and children like him from around the world. Paul and Gina strongly believe that every child should have access to medical care, regardless of geographical location or financial position and their personal involvement in the creation of Operation Herbie is reflected in the values and philosophy behind the Herbie Fund.
The Mistletoe Ball and Silent Auction was a fine evening for a worthy cause. It was a great effort on the part of all the sponsors, organizers, business that donated auction items, bar staff, waiters, security to support the Hospital for Sick Children!. So if you didn't go this year, you must go next year and check back here for details!
