Fashion Takes Action - Green Gala
November 8, 2008

The Green Gala 2008

On November 8, 2008, Kelly Dreenan of Fashion Takes Action held her second annual Green Gala with the theme of "Midnight in the Garden." This year it was moved from the difficult to get to Evergreen Brick Works to the Fermenting Cellar in the Distillery District. "The goal of the Gala is to create awareness for the potential that these fabrics have to make stylish, couture and evening wear pieces. It was once again Canada's greenest fashion event, as the runway was LED lit; all hair and makeup products used were eco-friendly; the food and beverages served were a combination of local, organic or sustainable; Bullfrog Power provided clean green energy; no bottled water was served; all the cups, plates and napkins were bio-degradable; florals were local or fair trade and organic; and all printing was done on FSC certified paper using eco friendly inks." With the theme of Midnight in the Garden. the fashion show featured 10 of Canada's top fashion designers, each working with sustainable fabrics: the Designers were: Thien Le, Project Runway Canada winner Evan Biddell, Zoran Dobric, Nada Yousif, Carrie Hayes, Eugenia Leavitt, Jason Meyers, Aime Luxury, Damzels in this Dress and Thieves. Celebrity Models included: City TV's Anne Mroczkowski, City TV's Liz West, Cosmo TV's Jacqui Skeete, SUN TV's Tara Slone, The Hills After Party host Jessi Cruikshank, Fashion Television's Mary Kitchen, Jazz artist Larra Skye, Recording artist Lily Frost, Rogers TV's A Greener Toronto's Host Candice Batista and Moe Kelso of CBC's Steve and Chris Show. A open bar combined with a fine fashion show for a worthy cause!! - TorontoArtsandEvents is looking forward to next year's!!

About Fashion Takes Action

The fashion industry has contributed to our planet's current climate change situation through waste, water and energy consumption, and unfair labour and trade practices. The mission of Fashion Takes Action is "to bring awareness to these issues, and to guide the industry on a much less destructive path, while at the same time getting our message out to the media and the consumer. This is a global industry - we look to Europe for trends, we look to Asia and South America for manufacturing. There is a growing need for an organization to provide all of these resources under one roof, to an industry that has no choice but to make a shift toward sustainability. In the spring of 2009, Fashion Takes Action will launch as a members-based organization, providing a number of services to the fashion industry around sustainability. The Green Gala was a huge success and for in our view, a great cause!! The fashion industry, like all industries, must reduce waste and green house gases! Click on this page for more information on how to do that and check back here for the Green Gala 2009!!
