Luminato 2019 – Obeah Opera

Obeah Opera is a stunning rhythmic opera of the Salem witch trials told from the perspective of the young Caribbean slave Tituba who experienced it.  Asah Productions – A Nicole Brooks Vision presented it from June 18 – 22, 2019 at the Fleck Dance Theatre as part of Luminato.   14 women, 5 men, and 2 dogs were executed for their supposed crimes in Salem, Mass in 1692 from a massive witch hunt in which hundreds were arrested.  Obeah Opera is a superb musical based in black music such as calypso and gospel with an all-female cast.
